Residents Against Greenfield Encroachment
The Story So Far…
Just a couple of months ago planning permission was sought for the building of 450 new homes on a wedge of land near Hollygate Lane. Despite the fact that this is protected Green Belt land your local council voted to recommend the proposal to Rushcliffe Borough council. Very quickly a public meeting was held and the overwhelming opinion of those present was of outrage and that the application should be rejected outright. Even one of the councilors who had voted in favor was immediately moved by the depth of feeling to bravely rescind her support to better represent local people! Shortly after that over 600 of you signed and returned a petition against this destruction of our country side.
PRESERVATION OF COTGRAVE
The second Cotgrave Action Group – RAGE newsletter was delivered to all houses in Cotgrave was well received and many residents spoke in favour and support of the aims of the group. In particular, a great number of people in Daleside, Ringleas, Wood View and Lingford were particularly supportive of Gillian Upton who undertook to deliver the letters in those areas. Their positive comments were very much appreciated.
Because of the strong public opinion voiced against the proposed development in Hollygate Lane, Cotgrave Council were officially asked to reconsider their decision and send details of such reconsideration to Rushcliffe Borough Council. Unfortunately the Cotgrave Council did not see fit to support the wishes of the residents of village and refused to alter their decision. It is also understood that the application for the development was not on the October agenda of the Rushcliffe Planning Committee and whilst it has not been confirmed, it is hoped that the matter will be put on the agenda for November.
A further petition voicing objection to the Hollygate Lane development and the encroachment onto greenbelt land has been organised subsequent to the one run earlier this year. Already over 1,000 signatures have been obtained.
Feelings are still very high in the village and residents should be aware that the question of the Hollygate Lane development is still very much live. Every opportunity should be taken to voice objections to the disastrous effect such a development would have on the village and to make it known that the residents are strongly in opposition to such large scale development.
The current developments taking place within the village on the Diamond site and at Bakers Hollow are indicative of current building design. Three storey and ‘two and a half’ storey houses now seem to be the vogue. It is apparent that such developments are totally out of keeping with the neighbouring properties comprising normal two storey houses and bungalows. Objections were raised by members of Cotgrave Council regarding the proposed height of Diamond site houses when the application was presented as it was felt these would overshadow nearby buildings. Unfortunately the objections were not considered important by the planning committee and permission was granted. The result is that the houses do not fit in aesthetically and natural light has been taken from the surrounding properties to the detriment of neighbouring residents. Many properties of these new two and a half and three storey designs are included in the planning application for Hollygate Lane.
The Cotgrave Action Group web site – www.cotgraveactiongroup.co.uk – is being extended to include current news items regarding development within the village and to keep residents informed of what is happening. It is hoped this will be of interest and you are encouraged to visit the site and keep up to date with events as they affect us all.

Do you want to see our village under more strain and more of this ?
Or do you want to see our village as it should be with more of this !
Cotgrave is the subject of planning
applications for 600 homes on the old colliery site and a further
450 houses on greenbelt land in Hollygate Lane. We learnt that our
local Council planned to support these developments and we all feel
that Cotgrave is a village worth saving from the developers.
We certainly don't want to see Cotgrave concreted over! It is a
great place to live with a unique village atmosphere and great rural
surroundings. Folk move here and like it so much they stay for many
years.
So far we have encouraged residents to protest to both their local MP
Kenneth Clarke and to write formal objections to government and planning
authorities. It was clear at a public meeting we held in May 2008 that the
vast majority of Cotgrave residents are behind us in our opposition to these
ill conceived proposals. We plan further activates to highlight our cause
and oppose the plans
Our group has members from diverse backgrounds and professions and we are
always looking for new recruits. We have a common aim though. We
passionately care about Cotgrave and its people and we don't want to see it
ruined forever and become one large, sprawling housing estate. Once a green
field has gone it has gone forever.
Join us in our fight. Let's show the politicians we will not stand back and
see our village swallowed up and turned into a soul less, bland, boring
urban sprawl. Together we can win.
